A Marietta man has been arrested in Hall County for allegedly trafficking in 10 kilograms of fentanyl from Mexico.

29-year-old Rodrigo Morales-Figueroa appeared in federal court on Monday according to the U.S. Northern District of Georgia.

“Foreign cartels profit from the addiction and deaths of Americans, pushing fentanyl and other dangerous drugs in our community,” U.S. Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg said.

According to Hertzberg law enforcement seized 10 kilograms of fentanyl hidden in car batteries transported by a Mexico-based drug trafficking organization.

On June 17, federal investigators learned that the organization intended to send a courier to pick up the drugs.

The next day, special agents conducted a controlled delivery of fake fentanyl to the agreed upon location in Gainesville.

Morales-Figueroa arrived at the location and loaded the packages into his car. Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) deputies arrested him shortly after.

Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer Keen is prosecuting the case.
