Officials with Main Street Gainesville are surveying community members to locate science-related resources and assets within the city.
Downtown Gainesville announced via social media Tuesday that it has partnered with Elachee Nature Science Center and Gainesville Parks and Recreation to launch the Science Asset-Mapping Project. The assessment comes after Main Street Gainesville was awarded a Science Discovery Grant from the Simons Foundation based in New York.
The Simons Foundation funds projects to advance the research of mathematics and basic sciences within communities. The grant program aims to collaborate with Main Street communities to help them discover scientific--related resources in the area.
Main Street Gainesville was one of 12 recipients of the $12,500 nationwide grant.
The post explained that answers from the survey will help officials plan future programs and events related to scientific discovery in Downtown Gainesville.
