A new bridge over the Chestatee River could be coming soon in Lumpkin County.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), they have issued a notice to proceed with the project replacing the bridge on State Route 52 over the Chestatee River.
APAC-Atlantic, Inc., a contractor based out of Savannah, was awarded the project that is expected to cost just over $7.1-million.
The project will realign and elevate the bridge. The new structure will span roughly 300-feet and be elevated by roughly five-feet to accommodate the 100-year flood line.
The project spans over just under half of a mile and will have a posted speed limit of 45-mph. There will be two 12-foot travel lanes with eight-foot shoulders.
Construction is expected to be completed by Nov. 30, 2026.
