At the “No Kings” protest held at Gainesville’s Poultry Park on Saturday, a new candidate for Georgia’s 9th Congressional District appeared to speak to residents and make his campaign vocal.

Nick Alex, who has resided in northeast Georgia for over 30 years, said he would listen to his constituents and be visible.

“My biggest contrast with Clyde is that I will be visible, I will be engaged, I will be out in the … district,” Alex said. “He doesn’t do town halls, he doesn’t come out and speak at places like this.”

Alex said he is running as a centrist, supporting strong borders, a balanced budget, and the Second Amendment. He will be in the Democratic primary for the 2026 election.

“I believe that moderates … are starting to look for alternatives,” Alex said. “I think I can be that kind of alternative.”

He said he started his campaign back in April for the 2026 midterm elections. He also said he did not support Trump’s big tax breaks bill that passed the House back in May and now goes to the Senate.

“I call it the big bad bill,” Alex said. “He also got a tax break [in the bill] for silencers or suppression … for guns passed in this legislation. So he’s doing very good at doing things that are good for him and his business, but he’s not good at listening to his constituents.”

Clyde founded Clyde Armory, a gun store in Athens.

“This new bill that Republicans have proposed would add $4-trillion of debt to our balance sheet, which is going the wrong direction,” Alex said.

He also said he did not agree with what the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was doing.

“The things that have been done by DOGE are almost criminal to me, they’re certainly ethically criminal,” Alex said.

At the protest, residents could be heard chanting “Clyde must go, elect Alex.” Alex spoke at the protest, saying the best thing they could do is vote for him.

“Let’s take charge,” Alex said to the protestors.
