The search for a Sautee man wanted from an officer-involved shooting in Habersham County Early Wednesday comes to an end with the suspect's arrest late Thursday night.
A press release from Rob Moore with Habersham County Sheriff's office said Thursday night that a tip from a local business Thursday night led to the arrest of a man wanted in connection with an officer-involved shooting early Wednesday in Habersham County.
34-year old Jonathan William Harris of Sautee, was arrested just before 9 p.m. at a home on Rosewood Drive off Toccoa Highway outside Clarkesville.
After Habersham County E-911 relayed the sighting of Harris to patrol units, deputies immediately responded.
The employee advised deputies the man entered the store wearing a yellow traffic vest, a helmet, gloves, with a mask. When he pulled the mask down, the employee recognized him as Harris, and immediately dialed 9-1-1.
Upon reviewing video footage at the business, deputies confirmed it was Harris and other units responded to the area to establish a perimeter. The individual had left in a Kubota side-by-side with pine straw in the bed. Deputies located the Kubota side-by-side a short distance away on Rosewood Drive just off Ga. 15.
In the recovered side-by-side, deputies located a yellow traffic vest, a bicycle helmet, a mask, and gloves.
K-9 teams from Habersham County Sheriff’s Office and Banks County Sheriff’s Office tracked to a camper parked in the yard of a home on Rosewood Drive and noticed that a window had been forced open. After failed attempts to communicate with Harris and visual movement within the camper was observed, deputies obtained a key from the owner and confirmed that the camper was supposed to be unoccupied. A K-9 team and several law enforcement personnel entered the camper.
Harris was then located under a bed in the camper and was taken into custody by a K-9 apprehension.
Officials say Harris had in his possession two handguns, two other firearms located in a bag belonging to him and was assessed by Habersham County Emergency Services personnel before being taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham for medical clearance from the K-9 apprehension.
Harris will be booked into the Habersham County Detention Center and now faces additional charges.
A Sautee man remains at large after an officer-involved shooting in Habersham County that left a deputy injured early Wednesday.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Jonathan William Harris, 34, was pulled over by a Habersham County Sheriff’s Office deputy near Juniper Trail in Toccoa at around 3:30 a.m.
Harris was reportedly driving a truck pulling a trailer, with two flat tires, that was reported stolen out of Hall County.
The truck stopped at the end of Juniper Trail, and as the deputy got out of his patrol car, Harris rammed into the patrol car, which caused it to hit the deputy and knock him to the ground.
Harris then got out of the truck and ran from the scene when the deputy fired a shot at him.
Antone Cortez Hall, 44, of Gainesville, was a passenger in the truck.
Hall was arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property, obstruction of an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was booked in the Habersham County Detention Center.
Harris who is still on the run, has been charged with possession of a firearm/knife during the commission of a crime, fleeing/eluding a police officer, aggravated assault upon a law enforcement officer, obstruction of an officer and theft by receiving stolen property.
Harris also has outstanding warrants for an arrest from an unrelated incident.
The deputy sustained minor injuries.
