The Northeast Georgia History Center is getting set to premiere its Chautauqua series "Appalachian Wanderers" this summer.
The series this year features performances of two different sorts of wanderers. One of the characters being portrayed is Scottish- American conservationist John Muir, who in his work A thousand- Mile Walk to the Gulf waxes poetic describing Georgia Appalachian Moutains and Gainesville.
The second character being portrayted, Gainesville’s own social activist Helen Dortch Longstreet, who fought to protect Talluah Falls and Gorge from exploitation. Each presentation will include preshow performances from Atlanta Historic Dance of popular dance contemporary with the times Muir and Longstreet speak from.
The performances from John Muir will be held on June 28 at 7pm and June 29 at 1pm. Helen Dortch Longstreet Performance will be July 26 at 7pm and July 27 at 1pm.
