The Gainesville Fire Department will conduct field training on Monday, June 9, by simulating a commercial fire near Downtown Gainesville.
The testing involving GFD personnel will take place from approximately 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at a vacant warehouse on the corner of Main Street and College Avenue.
While the public may notice emergency vehicles on site and what appears to be smoke emitting from the building, the department reminds residents that the smoke is artificial and that no fire or flames are present.
Those traveling in the area are urged to drive carefully, and watch for public safety personnel and equipment during this time.
A single lane of College Avenue may be closed intermittently throughout the day.
