The Georgia Sheriff’s Association recently selected Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith as the 2025 Sheriff of the Year.
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said Smith will be formally honored at the GSA Summer Conference on Aug. 6.
Smith said it is a blessing and an honor to be named sheriff of the year.
“I get to be Sheriff, and I get to serve the citizens of Barrow County, and I get to do that alongside the best agency in the state, in my opinion, the best men and women that serve each and every day,” Smith said.
Smith added that family keeps him going even when things are tough.
“Remembering what my why is each day, that's what brings me back,” Smith said. “I have a wife and two kids, an extended family, my office family, and everybody at the same time. But, getting up every day and remembering why God put me where I'm at.”
Smith said it is a privilege to serve the citizens and visitors of Barrow County every day.
“I get to be Sheriff, but I don't have to be Sheriff, I get to be by the citizens of Barrow County, and I'm just blessed by that. So that's the reason, that's what keeps me going,” Smith said.
Smith thanked the sheriff's association for selecting him.
“I am just honored that all the sheriffs would honor me in this way, because there have been some phenomenal sheriffs that have done this, and there will be some phenomenal sheriffs in the future that will be honored as well,” Smith said.
The GSA Banquet will take place in Savannah.
