Boys golf championships: Matson, Seabolt lead NHall to runner-up finish

LaGRANGE, Ga. — After Monday’s opening round, 16 players were within five shots of the lead, including three northeast Georgia area players, in the Class 3A tournament. 

One of those was West Laurens’ Braceton Beasley, who sat in seventh place after Day 1, two strokes behind teammate Brody Graham. 

Besley caught fire on Tuesday, firing a 3-under par 68 to storm to the lead and capture the Class 3A individual championship. 

North Hall's Tyler Matson, one shot off the lead after Day 1, finished with a 5-over par 77 to finish second. He finished with a two-day total of 152, seven strokes off the lead. His teammate, Tanner Seabolt, turned in a two-day total of 158 to finish fifth overall. 

White County’s JT Bunch (159) tied for seventh, and Jefferson’s Zachary Moore (161) was 11th. 

As for the team competition, West Laurens (629) finished seven strokes ahead of North Hall (636) to win the team title. 

Jefferson (677) finished fifth. 

In Class A Division 1, Banks County, which led the field early yesterday, finished third overall, five strokes behind champion Elbert County.

The Leopards fired a 78-over 654, while Elbert County was 73-over par with 649. Rabun County finished eighth, finishing with a 688 team score.

But the Tigers’ Will Bowen finished two strokes off the lead to finish second in the individual competition. Swainsboro’s Colten Lewis finished one under for the tournament, firing a 143. 

In Class 2A, Union County finished seventh with a 665 two-day total. 

Hayden Price led Union County with a 12-over 156 to finish 11th.
