Two men were convicted of murder in Gwinnett County after a 2019 shooting incident.
According to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office, a jury found 37-year-old Daquan Rashad Clarke and 44-year-old Troy Anthony Hunt guilty on two counts of felony murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery, and four counts of violation of Georgia’s Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act.
The guilty verdict came after the October 2019 shooting death of 55-year-old Sukkee Hong.
Hunt was also found guilty of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Hunt, Clarke, and the now dead Ian Jabar Longshore identified Hong’s TME Check Cashing business as one they intended to rob.
The three were identified as members of the “Goodfellas” criminal street gang and decided that they would follow Hong and rob him at his Sugar Hill home.
On the night of Oct. 4, 2019, the three men and a fourth unidentified person went to Hong’s home. Hunt and the unidentified man followed Hong into his garage while Longshore and Clarke waited in a separate vehicle.
Video evidence showed that the two men fled the garage after gunfire was heard.
DNA evidence and cellphone data matched with Clarke, Longshore, and Hunt being in the area at the time of the shooting.
During the trial, Clarke’s girlfriend, 38-year-old Subriccia Moss, testified she purchased a tracking device for Clarke. She also admitted she went into Hong’s store to distract him while Clarke planted the tracker on Hong’s vehicle.
She also acted as a lookout on the day of the murder. Before the trial, Moss pleaded guilty to armed robbery and aggravated assault and was sentenced to 15 years in prison and five years on probation.
Longshore died in the Gwinnett County Detention Center in 2021 on an overdose of fentanyl and xylazine while the fourth assailant has not been identified.
“We stand with the family and loved ones of Mr. Sukke Hong and continue to grieve his loss,” Gwinnett County District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said. “We thank the jury for returning a verdict which gives Mr. Hong’s family justice. Violent gang activity is unacceptable in Gwinnett County, and we will always hold those who commit crimes like these accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Hunt and Clarke’s sentencing will be at a later date.
