A Lula man wanted on charges out of Hall County was arrested Thursday after a chase and crash in southern Habersham County.

A release by the Habersham County Sheriff's Office said the incident started just before 2:00 p.m. when authorities spotted Marvin Chris Mangum on Ivie Street just off of Sunshine Circle. When deputies tried to pull Mangum over, he allegedly drove away, starting the chase.

"Mangum ran the stop sign at the intersection with Hoyt Street, losing control of the Ford Ranger truck he was driving and then brushing against the PIT bumper of a Habersham County Sheriff's Office unit before running the stop sign and turning onto Level Grove Road toward downtown Cornelia," the release from authorities said.

The chase ended when Mangum drove onto a vacant gravel parking lot, jumped a ditch and hit another sheriff's office vehicle on Hoyt Street near Hillside Baptist Church. Mangum then allegedly fled on foot before being caught by a sheriff's office K-9 in front of The Lord's Help Soup Kitchen.

Mangum is being held in the Habersham County Detention Center on more than $15 thousand bond on charges related to the chase, as well as DUI and possession of methamphetamine. He's also on a hold for his charges in Hall County. According to authorities there, he faces charges including theft by taking and second-degree criminal damage to property.

No deputies were injured in the chase.
