Free reception for Piedmont University's new virtual reality exhibition set for April 29

Piedmont University students and faculty recently announced the completion of “Memorialization and Visualization of Museum Exhibits in a Virtual Environment.”

Those in the community are invited to a free reception on Tuesday, April. 29 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Piedmont University's Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art to participate in a virtual reality experience.

Under the direction of Dr. Bob Lutz, students Ana Lopez Prado and Lennox Wilson will present a virtual reality experience documenting the Lillian E. Smith 80th Anniversary Exhibition and the LES Center in Clayton, Georgia, where Smith lived and worked. 

Associate Professor of English Dr. Matthew Teutsch and scholar Lillian Smith, will provide introductory remarks.

The exhibition celebrates the legacy of Smith and the 80th anniversary of her best-known novel, Strange Fruit released in 1944.

Art, books and personal items from Smith’s collection will be on display in the exhibition, including a book signed by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The MSMA is located at 567 Georgia Street, Demorest, GA 30535.
