GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club has added Erika Medveczky, an eight-time World Champion and Olympian, as a development coach.

Kim Martin, LCKC executive director, said she brings great experience, enthusiasm, commitment and passion to the club.

"We are so thankful to add Erika to our amazing coaching staff," Martin said. "She is a very talented coach and athlete with the perfect attitude to be a team player and part of our staff."

Medveczky, who is from Budapest, Hungary, has 27 years of experience in high-level kayaking, including finishing fourth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and is an eight-time World Champion, a three-time world championship bronze medalist, a six-time European champion, and a 21-time Hungarian champion.

Before coming to the United States, she served as president of the Kis-Duna Sports Club in Budapest.

She said she has settled into the new post and looks forward to working with the team.

"I am really enjoying the club," she said. "The club members are a wonderful community. They have made us feel welcome and comfortable when we arrived in the USA.

"I was very excited to start working with the children. I want to help them grow, learn, and be their best. I also want to help the club build a strong and positive base for the younger generation. This job is not just work for me; it’s something I truly care about."

LCKC head coach Aaron Mullican said Medveczky is an excellent addition to the coaching staff.

"We are so excited about the new addition of Erika as our lead developmental coach," Mullican said. "The past four years, our staff has almost doubled in size and in talent. Erika brings a very special talent to our club, being a former Olympian in the sport of kayaking. She will be a great addition to these young kids, not only motivating them to push beyond what they think they can do. But also giving them the skills and knowledge to one day become professional athletes."

Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club is dedicated to continuing the 1996 Olympic Legacy. It offers community outreach through summertime public rentals, recreational programs, corporate team building, and competitive flatwater sprint Canoe/Kayak teams.
