A Stephens County man who fled a Hall County rehabilitation center was captured on Tuesday in a house in Toccoa.
Calvin McCoy, 30, of Toccoa was apprehended by Stephens County authorities after they received an anonymous tip that he was back in Toccoa.
On Tuesday, the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit conducted a search warrant at a residence on Mae Drive in Toccoa and located McCoy, and placed him back into custody.
McCoy was arrested on the following charges: warrant service for Felony Probation Violation on three counts, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers. He was transported to the Stephens County Jail without incident.
Ansley Smith, 23, of Toccoa, was also at the residence during the search and investigators believed she assisted McCoy in hiding. Smith was arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail on charges of Hindering/Apprehending a Criminal.
McCoy had warrants for felony probation violation out of Dawson, Hall, and Stephens counties for charges including Burglary in the 1st Degree, Criminal Damage to Property in the 2nd Degree, and Felony Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers.
McCoy was on probation for previous convictions in Dawson County including Terroristic Threats and Criminal Damage in the 2nd Degree. He has multiple previous violent convictions out of Stephens County including Burglary in the 1st Degree, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Felony Escape. McCoy also has multiple previous charges for fleeing and/or obstructing law enforcement.
Due to his extensive criminal history, the CSU determined McCoy to be a threat to public safety and launched an immediate investigation into his whereabouts. The CSU set up surveillance around a residence where McCoy was allegedly hiding.
During the investigation, Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigators also received anonymous tips confirming McCoy was in Stephens County.
