GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Leading 7-1, the North Hall baseball team scored eight runs to stroll to a 15-3 win over rival Chestatee at the Lynn Cottrell Sports Complex on Tuesday.
The Trojans (20-6, 16-3 Region 6-3A) got things started in the first when Smith McGarvey was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in the game’s first run. The Trojans followed with a six-run outburst in the third, highlighted by a Kenny Foudy double, a two-RBI double from Ty Kemp, and a single from McGarvey.
The fifth inning was a disaster for the War Eagles. The Trojans' Branson Crawford, Kemp, McGarvey and Joab Bolton drove in runs, along with a two-RBI single from Thomas Davis and a run-scoring groundout from Mills Lothridge. An error capped an eight-run inning.
Micah Jimerson earned the win for the Trojans, allowing just one earned run on three hits over 4 2/3 innings, striking out three. Tanner White came in to close it out.
Davis led the Trojans with three RBIs, while Kemp, Honeycutt, McGarvey, Crawford and Foudy each tallied two hits. Kemp also recorded two of North Hall’s four stolen bases.
Chestatee (6-22, 5-14 Region 6-3A) had hits from Cort Hagerman, Zac Benna, and Eli Chaffin. Thomas Martens and Carter Edmondson each drove in a run for the War Eagles.
North Hall will host Chestatee on Thursday.
WALNUT GROVE 2,
FLOWERY BRANCH 1
The Warriors' pitching staff recorded 12 of the 21 outs via strikeout and held the Falcons (14-10, 8-5 Region 8-4A) to one run on five hits to get the win at home on Tuesday.
The Warriors (18-9, 8-5 Region 8-4A) also helped themselves in the Region 8-4A standings, tying the Falcons for third with the win.
Sam Martell pitched a gem of a game for the Warriors, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out nine. Branson Blalock came on in relief and recorded three strikeouts in a scoreless inning.
Flowery Branch’s Jacob Miller was equally impressive, giving up only two unearned runs on two hits over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out five and walked three.
Walnut Grove took the lead in the first inning, 2-0, after a Falcon error.
Antonio De La Torre Mariscal scored the Falcons' only run in the sixth inning off a wild pitch. Flowery Branch scored its lone run
Mariscal, Parker Bourrie, Riley Bourrie and Jackson Freeman recorded hits on the day for the Falcons.
The two teams will meet again on Friday as Walnut Grove travels to Flowery Branch.
CHEROKEE BLUFF 12,
LOGANVILLE 4
The Bears jumped on Class 5A No. 3-ranked Loganville early en route to the win at home on Tuesday.
Bryce Fontenont drove in two runs in the first, and Ethan England and Bubba Coleman each added two RBIs in the second. Fontenont added two home runs, including a three-run shot in the sixth, finishing with five RBIs.
Brantley Carter led Loganville with a three-run homer in the fourth.
Gabe Gowder earned the win for Cherokee Bluff, striking out five over five innings.
Bluff will finish the regular season at Lanier on Thursday.
LUMPKIN COUNTY 6,
DAWSON COUNTY 4
The Indians rallied from four runs down, scoring six unanswered runs to knock off Dawson County (14-14, 9-10 Region 6-3A) in Dahlonega on Tuesday.
The win gives the Indians (17-11, 10-9 Region 6-3A) a one-game lead over the Tigers in the Region 6-3A standings and now holds the final guaranteed playoff spot. The two rivals will play Game 2 in Dawsonville on Thursday.
The Tigers got on the board in the second inning when Jadyn Mattie ripped a two-run triple to give Dawson County a 2-0 lead. They extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth.
Then the Indians began to chip away.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Indians' bats came alive, stringing together a triple from Mason Hester, a double by Adian Rogers, a single by Jayzen Johnson, and a sacrifice bunt by Kendal Lee to tie the game at 4-4. Lee came through again in the sixth with a go-ahead single, giving Lumpkin County a 6-4 lead.
Dylan Edwards, Carson Sosebee and Mattie had two hits each. Mattie also led the Tigers with two RBIs.
Lee’s two RBIs paced Lumpkin County, while Hester and Johnson each contributed two hits.
PROVIDENCE CHRISTIAN 3,
BANKS COUNTY 0
The Leopards (22-6, 16-3 Region 8-A D1) started the series with a chance to tie Providence Christian atop the Region 8-A Division 1 standings. Now, they're two games behind the Storm (22-5, 18-1 Region 8-A D1) after falling on the road Tuesday.
The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning, when Providence Christian broke through with a sacrifice fly from Santos Wade to take a 1-0 lead. They added two insurance runs in the sixth inning to seal the win.
Reece Newberry was strong on the mound for the Storm, scattering five hits over six shutout innings while striking out eight and walking two.
Bank County's Owen Miller was pretty good as well on the hill, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out five and walking three, in five innings of work.
Gatlin Green was 2-for-2 to lead Banks County at the plate.
Banks County must win the next two at home to have a shot at the region title.
EAST FORSYTH 9,
MADISON COUNTY 2
The Broncos scattered nine runs over five innings to knock off Madison County at home on Tuesday.
The win clinches the Broncos a Class 4A playoff spot. If they sweep the Red Raiders this week, they'll be the No. 3 seed in the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the Broncos opened the game with a 4-0 lead after the second inning. Zach Aschoff stole home in the first to get the Broncos on the board, and Jackson Staton’s double and Boone Blanton’s single helped extend the lead in the second.
East Forsyth added four more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Grant Barden earned the win, striking out seven over five innings while allowing just one run on three hits.
Aschoff and Ryan Ward each had two hits, while Blanton and Aschoff drove in two runs.
The Broncos travel to Madison County for a rematch on Thursday.
RABUN COUNTY 13,
OGLETHORPE COUNTY 2
The Wildcats erupted for eight runs in the first inning to pace the blowout win over Oglethorpe County on the road Tuesday.
Parker Smith and Chase Alonso each drove in a run with singles, Macade Huff drew a bases-loaded walk, and Carver Jarrard delivered a two-run single. Baylor Potts and Ty Truelove followed with RBI hits, and Smith added another RBI with a groundout later in the opening inning.
An Oglethorpe error in the second helped extend the Wildcats' lead to 9-2. The Wildcats tacked on three more runs in the fifth.
Alonso got the win on the mound, striking out six and allowing just two runs on three hits over four innings. Huff closed it out with a scoreless fifth, fanning one in relief.
Jarrard, Smith, Noah English, and Alonso each had two, with Smith leading the Wildcats with two RBIs.
The two teams are set for a rematch on Friday.
