Banks County's Fire Department officials are looking for the exact cause of a structure fire Monday afternoon in the city of Homer.
Fire Chief Steve Nichols says their crews and City of Homer Fire crews were called to 365 Athens Street in Homer just after 2:30 p.m. for a reported structure fire, to arrive and discover a single family home with smoke and fire showing from the interior.
Nichols' press release on Monday added that an aggressive interior attack was made of the residence and the fire was quickly contained iwthin two hours of the initial 911 call. Immediate investigations following the fire deemed the structure sustained heavy damage.
Officials say the owner was home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has been ruled accidental by the Homer Fire Department. Electrical malfunction could not be ruled out as the cause. The American Red Cross was requested for family assistance.
Banks County assisted the City of Homer along with LACI FD and the Jackson County CI. The incident was terminated at 16:52 hrs. The American Red Cross was requested for family assistance.
