Baseball: Branch-North Oconee open series in battle for 1st in 8-4A

Another light schedule for Wednesday on the diamond, but several games could have significant playoff implications.

The biggest series of the day with be in Flowery Branch. The Falcons (12-7, 7-2 Region 8-4A) sit just one game behind North Oconee (17-4, 8-1 Region 8-4A) and open a three-game series with the Titans at the Hog Mountain Sports Complex on Wednesday in a battle for first place.

Gainesville in Region 7-5A has climbed into third place after a doubleheader sweep over Chattahoochee on Tuesday. The Red Elephants (11-12, 9-5 Region 7-5A) have won 10 of their last 11 and finish their series with the Cougars on Wednesday.

In Region 8-5A, Jackson County (10-10, 3-5 Region 8-5A) has fallen into sixth place in Region 8-5A and travels to habersham Central (12-9, 4-4 Region 8-5A) on Wednesday. the Raiders have moved into a tie for third in the standings.
