One person was killed due to an out-of-control brush fire in Lumpkin County from Wednesday.
Social media posts from Lumpkin County Sheriff Stacy Jarrard's office Wednesday afternoon said the fire was in the area of Buckhorn Tavern Road near White Stone Lane.
"The fire [was] contained but unfortunately there was a loss of life." The sheriff's office said.
As of Thursday morning, there is no word from Lumpkin County authorities on the identity of the victim from the fire, or the exact cause of death. Lumpkin County Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services David Wimpy responded to requests for comment on Wednesday, saying the fire remains under investigation.
