After a wreck on Interstate 985 earlier this month killed one and injured four others, a Clarkesville man has been charged.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) reports that 46-year-old George Lovell Boggs was charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle in relation to the March 5 crash.

Boggs was also charged with misdemeanor offenses of reckless driving, distracted driving, and two counts of following too closely and defective equipment.

According to the initial investigation, the crash happened at around 2 p.m. on I-985 northbound near the Atlanta Highway overpass. Boggs allegedly failed to brake for slowing vehicles.

Hall County officials then transported five victims in the pileup that ensued including 35-year-old Julie Anna Griffith of Cornelia. Griffith died at the hospital on March 13.

Boggs remains in jail without bond.
