Two local coaches have been selected to be inducted into the second-ever class of the Georgia Basketball Coaches Association (GBCA) Hall of Fame this weekend.
Former East Hall girls and boys basketball coach Seth Vining and former Gainesville girls coach Manson Hill are among a group of 10 coaches from around the state to be inducted.
Vining primarily coached the East Hall girls and then the East Hall boys with a four-year run at Lakeview Academy in the late 2000s. He won a pair of girls state titles at East Hall in 1979 and 1980, led by Brenda Hill-Gilmore, and then two boys titles in 2002 and 2003 at East Hall, led by Javon Randolph and Brody Langston. Vining retired from coaching in 2009 with an overall record of 709-267.
Hill led the Lady Red Elephants to their first-ever title in 1994 behind Katie B. Davis. After a brief stint coaching in North Carolina, Hill returned to Gainesville and won three more titles in 2001, 2003, and 2004 with Tasha Humphrey. Hill retired in 2011.
The Hall of Fame ceremony is part of GBCA’s all-star weekend. The GBCA will have four all-star games, which will tip-off at noon at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, home to Atlanta’s NBA G League team the Skyhawks.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will follow.
