Fire Services crews in White County were kept busy during the afternoon hours on Friday, March 14.
A press release from the White County Public Safety Office indicated that just after 4:30 p.m., White County 911 Communications dispatched White County Fire Services, White County EMS, the White County Sheriff’s Office, and Cleveland Fire Department to the area of Rattlesnake Hill off Town Creek Road in Cleveland for a large brush fire.
Upon arrival, units found one outbuilding fully involved with fire and a second outbuilding partially involved. The brush fire had begun to extend toward a nearby wooded area, and Georgia Forestry was requested to assist with containment.
Lumpkin County Fire responded in Mutual Aid, providing an additional tanker for water shuttle operations. A nearby residence sustained damage as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported from the scene.
Just two hours later, White County 911 Communications dispatched Cleveland Fire Department, White County Fire Services (responding in Automatic Aid), and White County EMS to a reported residential structure fire in the 300 block of West Underwood Street within the City of Cleveland. First arriving units found the residence approximately 25% involved with fire. Three occupants were assisted out of the structure. Officials say the displaced occupants were connected with the American Red Cross for assistance without any injuries reported
Cleveland Police Department responded to assist with traffic control, as West Underwood Street and one lane of West Kytle Street were blocked for approximately two hours during response operations.
The cause for the structure fire remains under investigation.
