ATLANTA — North Forsyth rallied from three runs down, using a seven-run fifth to take a much-needed 9-4, Region 6-6A win over North Atlanta on Wednesday on the road.
The win for the Class 6A seventy-ranked Raiders (10-6, 2-3 Region 6-6A) kept them in the top half of the early region standings while handing the Warriors (9-3, 4-1 Region 6-6A) their first region loss.
Jace Cahill had another big day at the plate with three hits and three RBI to pace a 10-hit attack. Seth Dixon had three hits and drove in two runs, and Ozzie Patterson also knocked in a pair of runs.
Sam Moore got the win for North Forsyth, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out eight in six innings.
The two teams will close out their three-game series on Friday in Coal Mountain.
JACKSON COUNTY 10,
ALCOVY 0 (5 inn)
Jackson County opened its Region 8-5A schedule with a dominating win in five innings on Wednesday at home.
The Panthers (7-5, 1-0 Region 8-5A) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to the quick lead. They scored first when a pitch with the bases loaded hit Landon VanWormer. Justin Mills later followed with a two-run double, and then he scored from third on a double steal later in the inning.
Jackson County added single runs in the second and third and invoked the Mercy Rule with three in the fourth, highlighted by an RBI single from Wes Ashcroft for the eventual winning run.
Colin Price earned the complete-game win, allowing just one hit and four walks while striking out 10.
HABERSHAM CENTRAL 10,
WINDER-BARROW 3
The Raiders scored seven runs in the first two innings en route to a big win over the Bulldoggs at home on Wednesday.
Mason Witt tripled in two runs, and Ethan Wheeler got an RBI groundout for another run as Habersham Central (8-6, 2-1 Region 8-5A) led 4-0 after the opening frame.
Tyler Rothell had a two-run double in the second, and Wheeler singled in another run as the Raiders extended the lead to 7-0.
That was all Wheeler needed on the mound. Wheeler got the wi,n scattering four hits and allowing three runs and striking out six in five innings.
Maverick Chitwood had three hits for Habersham Central, and Charlie Mills had two hits for the Raiders.
The two teams will finish their two-game series on Friday in Winder.
MILTON 9,
GAINESVILLE 8
The Red Elephants fell behind early, rallied with a four-run fifth to take the lead, but could not hold on as the Eagles scored five runs over the final two innings to pull out a win at Ivey-Watson in Region 7-5A action.
Gainesville trailed 9-7 going into the seventh and scored a run on a Hayden Graham RBI single and got the winning run on base when Dawson Vaughn was hit by a pitch.
But Milton reliever Ben Bookout got Cohen Miller, who had three of Gainesville’s six hits, to pop out to second to end the game.
The Red Elephants led 6-4 after the big fifth inning but Milton (6-8, 4-3 Region 7-5A) answered right back with four runs in the sixth and key run in the seventh to take a 9-7 lead.
The Red Elephants (2-11, 0-4 Region 7-5A) were looking for their first region win but have now lost seven straight.
Four errors by the defense led to seven unearned runs for four Gainesville pitchers.
CJ Saudarg and Andrew Rice each had one hit for the Red Elephants.
Gainesville will close out its series with Milton on Friday on the road.
