The heavy thunderstorms and severe wind gusts that hit early Wednesday morning has left its mark on several North Georgia counties in the Mountains region.
Thousands of Blue Ridge EMC and Amicalola EMC customers were without power after 6:00 a.m. Wednesday due to downed power lines and trees. Crews have been working vigorously to restore services to those EMC customers, while the severity of outages forced Gilmer County's school officials to close schools for Wednesday.
More than 3,500 customers with Amicalola EMC, and Blue Ridge EMC are dealing with outages through Wednesday morning, with a much smaller amout of isolated outages reported between the cooperatives serving the remainder of northeast Georgia.
