Event Name: Literary Festival, Dahlonega

Event Location: Dahlonega Baptist Church and UNG Campus, Dahlonega
Event Details: Kicking off the year is the Dahlonega Literary & Science Festival in March. Regional and local authors will be on hand to discuss some of their latest books and hold book signings! Twenty authors are featured, including former Georgia Governor Nathan Deal, who will be the luncheon speaker. This year’s Headline speaker (at 4 p.m.) is nationally-acclaimed author Rick Bragg. All events are free, and no registration is required, except lunch ($27) and Bragg’s session ($25). All sessions, except lunch, are held at the Dahlonega Baptist Church, 234 Hawkins St., with free parking and within walking distance of the historic Dahlonega Square. Event Details: The Georgia Appalachian Trail Club (GATC), in partnership with Amicalola Falls State Park, will be hosting A.T. Gateways, formerly known as the Appalachian Trail Kick Off (ATKO) the first
weekend in February 28 - March 2, 2025. An annual event that has been held the first weekend in March for over 20 years, for those who enjoy hiking or just the outdoors. Activities, programs and demonstrations will be held at both the Lodge and the new Visitor Center. The weekend will have various activities from vendors to presentations and programs for kids. Event Details: Enjoy a model train display, a t-shirt contest, and hear a presentation from a self-proclaimed “Space Nerd” where you will learn about satellites, air traffic routes, moonwalks and more! This is an interactive, family-friendly presentation. Children of all ages or welcome and questions from the audience are encouraged. Admission and participation are free. Event Name: Georgia Gem, Mineral, Fossil and Jewelry Show, Athens

Event Location: The Classic Center, 300 N. Thomas St., Athens
Event Details: This is the 9th annual occurrence of this event! The show floor is in Grand Hall 8, which is in the lower level of the main building. Parking available onsite (the venue may collect for parking, out of my control). 24 professional dealers of all things of geologic origin will bring their items to display and sell, mostly at sub-retail pricing or better. There will be thousands of mineral specimens for collectors of every level, from beginner to advanced expert. There are also lots of items from our local area and region. This event is great for families, adult tickets are $8, but kids 12 and younger are free! Admission is good for all three days, just keep the wristband.
