A man wanted on murder charges in South Carolina from a fatal hit-and-run case involving a pedestrian Monday was arrested in Gainesville GA. Thursday.

William Barney Drummond, 43, of Westminster, SC., was arrested by the Gainesville Police Department around midday after a search that started in South Carolina on Monday.

Drummond was charged in Oconee County SC. for the death of Devon James Turner, age 34, on Monday. A release from the Oconee County S.C. Sheriff’s Office said Drummond was driving a black 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 when he allegedly struck Turner on S. Highway 11 near E. Spearman Rd. Turner died in that collision.

The Gainesville Police Lieutenant Kevin Holbrook said the department was advised by the Oconee County Sheriff's Office that Drummond may be in the city.

"They had received information (Drummond) had possibly absconded to the Gainesville area," Holbrook said. "We began, immediately, attempting to track and locate Drummond...Police were able to safely take Drummong into custody along Queen City Parkway."

Holbrook said Dummond was found in possession of several guns, narcotics and "a large amount" of counterfeit money. He was booked into the Hall County Jail, where he remains without bond awaiting extradition to South Carolina.

Holbrook said it's not clear why Drummond fled to Gainesville, saying that he was staying in a local motel. No other suspects are being investigated as of Friday morning.
