ATLANTA — Lauren McDonald is pushing hard for the state to reduce taxes and offer refunds to taxpayers.
The Cumming lawmaker is the primary writer of House Bill 112, which would give an additional refund back to taxpayers who filed returns in 2023 and 2024, and is a co-sponsor, along with Dawsonville’s Will Wade, of House Bill 111. Wade is also a co-sponsor on HB 112.
Both bills were passed by the House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday and will now move to the rules committee, which decides if/when they get a vote by the full House of Representatives.
HB 111 would reduce the state’s income tax for individuals and corporations.
HB 112 would give back money paid by individuals or married people filing separately up to $250. According to the bill, heads of household would get up to $375 and while married couples filing jointly could receive up to $500.
The bills are part of Gov. Brian Kemp’s initiative to return some of the $16.5 billion in budget surplus that the state has accumulated over the years back to the citizens.
