Girls basketball: EHall advances to 8-3A semifinals; Buford heads to 8-6A title game

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Haley Barton scored 16 points to lead the East Hall girls basketball team past Monroe Area, 64-34, on Monday in the first round of the Region 8-3A tournament at Cherokee Bluff.

The win advances the Lady Vikings to the semifinals against No. 1 seed Jefferson on Wednesday. Tip is 7 p.m. at Cherokee Bluff. 

Terriah Watkins scored 13 points, and Paris Borders had nine in the win.

CENTRAL GWINNETT 38

The Lady Wolves' first-half defense led the way in the win over Central Gwinnett in the semifinals of the Region 8-6A tournament at Collins Hill on Monday. 

Buford (22-2) held the Lady Knights to six points in the first — scoreless in the second quarter — to take a 39-6 lead at the half. 

Central Gwinnett did find its way in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Wolves 24-6 to cut the lead 45-30. 

E’Miah Fields led Buford with 21 points, and Lydia Ledford pitched in 15. The Lady Wolves were 11-of-17 from the foul line. 

Buford will play for the Region 8-6A championship on Wednesday against Mill Creek. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
