Pedestrian killed in collision with Gwinnett County police car

A single vehicle collision involving a Gwinnett County police car left a male pedestrian dead early Monday morning. 

The Gwinnett County Police Department said in a release that an officer reported he was involved in a collision with a pedestrian  on Beaver Ruin Rd. near Ga. 85 just before 1 a.m. 

The officer involved reportedly was driving east on Beaver Ruin Rd. when the pedestrian crossed the roadway outside of the crosswalk.  

Officers responded to the scene to render aid to the pedestrian. He was transported by the Gwinnett County Services paramedics where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol was called to the scene to investigate the collison, with assistance from the Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit. The Investigation is ongoing. 

The name of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
