Basketball: Gainesville sweeps Seckinger to close out regular season

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Looking to close out the regular season on a strong note, both Gainesville teams accomplished that Friday night at the Davis-Hill Gymnasium. 

The Gainesville boys held Seckinger to just 5 third quarter points en route to a 67-48 win. The Lady Red Elephants held the Lady Jaguars to 8 points or less in every quarter in a 58-26 win in a pair of Region 7-5A games.

In the boys game, Gainesville led 18-13 after the first quarter and 32-26 at the half. The Red Elephants clamped down on the Jaguars in third quarter and ran out to a 51-31 lead heading into the fourth.

Charlie Gersmehl paced Gainesville with 16 points. KJ White had 11 points and Jaxson Jones 10 for the Red Elephants.

Caleb Wells led Seckinger with 19 points.

For the girls, Gainesville jumped out to a big 19-4 lead after the opening period. The Lady Red Elephants led 32-11 at halftime and took a 49-18 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Damaria Colburn led Gainesville with 18 points. Jaylah Mintz added 15 and Julia Payne had 10 for the Lady Red Elephants.
