A scam that has been discovered in other parts of the country has found its way to northeast Georgia.

The Barrow County Sheriff’ Department was notified of a phone scam where the scammer calls and identifies himself as a Barrow County Judge.
The scammer states the victim has a warrant and the warrant will be dismissed in exchange for a sum of money paid via electronic means.

The scammers are most likely from overseas and use devices that cannot be traced.

The BCSO is asking the public to help them inform citizens who do not have social media and are at risk of falling victim to these predators.

If you have any information or questions you can contact the BCSO at 770-307-3080.
