Gainesville City Councilman for Ward 2 Zack Thompson has announced his candidacy for Mayor of Gainesville Friday.

Thompson’s announcement comes days after Gainesville Mayor Sam Couvillon announced his campaign for Georgia’s ninth Congressional District Tuesday.

Thompson, who has served as Ward 2 representative for nearly a decade, said in a release his campaign will focus on sustaining economic growth, public safety and strengthening the community.

“I’m incredibly proud of the progress our current Mayor/City Council have made and the strong, collaborative leadership that has helped Gainesville thrive,” Thompson said in the announcement. “With deep roots in this community and a shared vision for its future, I’m ready to continue that momentum as Mayor—ensuring Gainesville remains a great place to live, work, play and raise a family.”

Outside of his council seat, Thompson co-owns Pro-Touch Landscapes alongside his brother Ryan.
