Last week, four northeast Georgia area girls teams began the week leading their respective regions in the Georgia High School Association.

Coming into this week’s schedule, six are now leading or tied for the region lead, as another key slate of games is on tap on Tuesday.

All 15 games on the schedule involve region matchups.

The biggest turnaround came in Region 8-6A where Class 6A 10th-ranked Buford (16-1, 7-1 Region 8-6A) went 3-0 in the region to jump from second place to leading the standings by 1 1/2 games over Mill Creek (11-5, 5-2 Region 8-6A), who has dropped two straight. The Lady Wolves will play host to third-place Central Gwinnett (11-5, 5-2 Region 8-6A) on Tuesday.

Also in Class 6A, No. 1-ranked North Forsyth (19-0, 9-0 Region 6-6A) leads Lambert (14-5, 8-1 Region 6-6A) by a game with the two teams slated to duke it out in Suwanee on Tuesday.

Jackson County (14-6, 7-0 Region 8-5A) continues to lead in Region 8-5A and has opened up a 1 1/2-game lead over Loganville (7-12, 5-1 Region 8-5A). The Lady Panthers are at home against third-place Clarke Central (7-9, 4-3 Region 8-5A), who has won four straight.

Class 3A No. 2-ranked Jefferson (15-3, 5-0 Region 8-3A) is now the only undefeated team left in the region after two big wins last week over No. 20 East Hall (10-8, 2-3 Region 8-3A) and No. 3 Cherokee Bluff (14-6, 3-2 Region 8-3A). The Lady Bears dropped a pair of region games last week to fall into third behind Oconee County (15-5, 4-1 Region 8-3A).

Region 8-3A is taking off the day on Tuesday before getting the second half of the region schedule underway on Friday.

In Region 6-3A, fifth-ranked White County (15-4, 7-1 Region 6-3A) has won four straight despite battling injuries and climbed into a tie for first place with No. 1 Pickens (16-2, 7-1 Region 6-3A), who was upset by No. 19 Dawson County (12-7, 5-3 Region 6-3A). The Lady Tigers jumped into third place with the win. Seventh-ranked Chestatee (12-6, 4-3 Region 6-3A) remains in fourth place after a lopsided loss to Pickens last week.

However, the Lady War Eagles have a chance to get back into the upper-tier race with a huge showdown at home against White County as the biggest game on the region schedule on Tuesday.

In Region 8-A Division 1, Banks County (12-5, 6-1 Region 8-A D1) has moved into a tie for first place with No. 2-ranked Elbert County (17-1, 6-1 Region 8-A D1) on the heels of a 9-game win streak, including a big 52-36 win over the Lady Blue Devils on Friday to split the season series.
