The Hall County Board of Education announced Friday it intends to opt out of House Bill 581, the statewide adjusted base year ad valorem homestead exemption, for the Hall County School District.

“As approved by Hall County voters during the General Election, the Hall County School District has elected to opt out of House Bill 581 and will continue to follow its local 3% property tax assessment cap,” Hall County Schools Superintendent Will Schofield said in a release. “Opting out of this exemption will allow our district to maintain the most streamlined process and focus on the intent of the assessment cap legislation, rather than managing two separate homestead exemptions for each qualifying parcel.”

As a part of the process, the board will hold three public hearings prior to the adoption of the proposed resolution to opt out of HB 581. According to a release  from the district, the board must file its resolution, pending board approval, with the Secretary of State by March 1, 2025.

All concerned citizens are encouraged to  attend the public hearings, all of which will be held at the  Hall County Board of Education Conference Room, 711 Green Street, Gainesville, GA 30501.

The public hearing dates are as follows:
