What's Happening This Weekend: MLK Day Weekend edition

The snow has (mostly) melted, and with Martin Luther King, Jr. Day coming up Monday, it's a great time to get out and enjoy a list of activities going on in Northeast Georgia!
 
Here is this weekend's list of events:
 
WEEKEND EVENTS JANUARY 17-19, 2025
 
Event Name: March for a Cause, MLK Walk, Gainesville 
Event Date & Time: Saturday, January 18, 11 a.m.
Event Location: Peach State Bank, E.E. Butler Pkwy, Gainesville    
Event Details: The Newtown Florist Club is hosting “March for a Cause” in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Local leaders and community members will gather beginning at 11 a.m. at the Peach State Bank in Gainesville and, at noon, will walk in unison to the Butler Center. Each year there’s a program held at the closing that gives honor to King’s life and his impact. Everyone in the community is invited to join!
 
Event Name: MLK Day Parade and Music Festival, Athens
Event Date & Time: Monday, January 20, 3 p.m. 
Event Location: Morton Theatre 195 West Washington St., Athens     
Event Details: The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) and United Group of Artists Music Association (UGAMA) proudly present the 2025 Annual Athens MLK Jr. Day Parade and Music Fest, honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Festivities begin at 3 p.m. on Hull Street. This year's theme, “The Time is Always Right to Do What is Right”, encapsulates Dr. King's enduring message of justice, unity, and action. Individuals, schools, nonprofits, and organizations from Athens and surrounding counties are invited to join this celebration of equality, diversity, and community through music, art, and civic engagement. 
 
Event Name: CastleFaire 2025, Helen 
Event Date & Time: Friday, January 17 – Sunday, January 19
Event Location: Uhuburg Castle, 571 Ridge Rd., Helen    
Event Details: Uhuburg's 2nd Annual CastleFaire, located in Helen Ga. Come join us at this year’s Winter Renaissance Festival where we will enter a medieval realm filled with food, dancing, live music and stories of old.
 
Event Name: All American Circus, Cleveland & Clarkesville
Event Date & Time: Friday –  Saturday, 6 p.m., Sunday, 4 p.m. 
Event Location: Habersham County Fairgrounds and White County Recreation Center
Event Details: There’s multiple opportunities to see this All American Circus! On Friday night, head to the Habersham County Fairgrounds at 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the circus will be in Cleveland at the White County Recreation Center starting at 4 p.m.  This year is an ALL-NEW show featuring all the classics of a real American family circus! Event Name: Concert, Evenings of Intimate Jazz: Joe Gransden, Gainesville
Event Date & Time: Friday, January 17
Event Location: The Smithgall Arts Center, 331 Spring St., SW, Gainesville     
Event Details: The Arts Council Smithgall Arts Center presents a musical tribute to the artistry of Tony Bennett!  Join Joe and his band as they take you on a swingin’ stroll through the life and career of Tony Bennett. One of the greatest performers ever of the American Songbook, Tony Bennett’s tone, phrasing and feel were second to none! Doors open at 7 PM and the concert starts at 8 PM. This is a must see event! Event Name: Concert, Nick and the Knacks, Cumming
Event Date & Time: Friday, January 17, 9 – 11 p.m.
Event Location: The Well, 420 Vision Drive, Cumming City Center, Cumming     
Event Details: Nick & The Knacks, Atlanta’s premiere rock tribute band, have been at it since the middle of 2018. What started as a 45-minute supporting set in Suwanee has turned into a full-time gig playing 100s of shows. Nick & The Knacks always brings you high-energy, non-stop vintage rock hits. The show is FREE! Free admission & free parking. No coolers, outside food, outside alcoholic beverages, cans, glass bottles, or smoking allowed. Friendly dogs on leash are welcome! Bring your own lawn chairs or blankets to sit on. 
 
Event Name: Concert, Banks & Shane, Dahlonega
Event Date & Time: Saturday, January 18, 7:30 p.m. 
Event Location: The Holly Theater, 69 W. Main St., Dahlonega     
Event Details: Banks & Shane (Banks Burgess and Paul Shane) started performing their blend of folk and Americana music in the Atlanta area in August 1972 and have entertained with performances around the U.S. and the world. Event Name: Campfire Pizza for National Pizza Day, Gainesville 
Event Date & Time: Saturday, January 18, 5- 6:30 p.m.
Event Location: Don Carter State Park, 5000 North Browning Bridge Rd., Gainesville     
Event Details: Learn how to make a large pizza and an individual pizza over a campfire with our rangers! This is the first program in our 2025 campfire cooking series. You will get a personalized sticker and new cooking skills for each program you come to! Meet at the visitor center, please call ahead to register.  
 
Event Name: Walk with a Ranger, Winder 
Event Date & Time: All Sundays in January, 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.
Event Location: Ft. Yargo State Park, 210 South Broad St., Winder      
Event Details: Come meet & greet our naturalist on a leisurely stroll along the Birdberry Trail. This event is stroller & pet-friendly. Every Sunday @ 11 & 1.  
 
Event Name: “Larger than Life” Art Exhibit, Sautee Nacoochee 
Event Date & Time: Saturday, January 18, All Day
Event Location: Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Arts Center, 283 Highway 255 North, Sautee Nacoochee     
Event Details: Larger Than Life Exhibit at the Sautee Nacoochee Center featuring six large-format painters: David Horton, Beth Paffenback, Keith Burgess, Win Crannell, Judy Bynum George and Nancy Ackerman. Find more details at https://sauteenacoocheecenter.org.  
 
Event Name: License to Chill Snow Island and Lakeside Lights Spectacular, Buford
Event Date & Time: Daily 2 – 10 p.m.
Event Location: Margaritaville Resorts, 7650 Lanier Island Pkwy, Buford  
Event Details: Experience a winter wonderland in License to Chill Snow Island. Glide on the ice rink, enjoy carnival rides and go snow tubing.
