The first of what one local law firm says will be several lawsuits has been filed against the operators of a North Hall County home daycare accused of giving medications to children.
Mike Weaver with Gainesville-based Weaver Law Firm announced Wednesday afternoon that they are representing nine families whose children were in the care of the daycare on Odum Smallwood Road that was operated by Stacie Fuller Young, age 51, and Ptiery Verby-Sunshine Edge, age 35, both of Gainesville
Young and Edge were arrested Tuesday on misdemeanor reckless conduct charges after Hall County Sheriff's Office investigators said they determined that the two had given melatonin and Benadryl to two children before their naptime at the daycare. The lawsuit filed Wednesday names Young and Edge, as well as Young's husband, David Young.
"Many of our clients have children that are under the age of 2 that were being kept by Ms. Young and Ms. Edge," Wednesday's release from Weaver Law Firm said. "These parents are traumatized after having learned this has happened to their children. Many of their children are still experiencing night time restlessness and night terrors that were not evident prior to attending this daycare."
The lawsuit filed Wednesday is seeking unspecified damages from the three, and Weaver says the other eight families will be filing separate lawsuits in the coming days.
"(We) anticipate that we will be accepting additional cases in the coming days," Weaver said.
The first lawsuit was filed in Hall County Superior Court.
At last report, the Hall County Sheriff's Office said their investigation into Young and Edge's alleged actions is ongoing.
