GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The Lakeview Academy boy basketball team put together everything Coach Benji Wood wants to see in his team in Tuesday night’s 90-39 win over George Walton Academy in GIAA District 4A/3A play at the Walters Athletic Center.

“It started with the effort,” Lakeview Coach Wood said. “Our two non-negotiables are effort and attitude. Our attitudes were great, and our effort was great. I thought we just fed off that.”

The Lions (11-6, 5-1 District 4A/3A) used good ball movement on offense to get open shots and suffocating defense to take control of the game from the start.

“We had a ton of energy, and it came from our effort and attitude,” Wood said.

Senior Justyce Sadler scored 28 points to hit the 1,000-point mark in his career. It was the second time in two games that a Lions player reached 1,000 points in their career. Senior Tayden Ware did it last Friday against Loganville Christian.

“It was really cool,” Wood said. “Tayden hit it last Friday, and Justyce hit it tonight. I’m really proud of both of those kids.”

The Lions raced out to a 9-0 lead and kept adding to it. George Walton made a run to cut it to 26-15 midway through the second quarter. Lakeview responded with a 24-4 run to close the half, capped by Brock Graham’s 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Graham finished with 13 points. Jude Ellis scored 11 points, 9 in the first half, and Kyari Burch added 10 points.

LAKEVIEW 40

The Lakeview girls chased George Walton Academy but could never catch the Bulldogs, falling 44-40 in the GIAA District 4A/3A contest.

The Bulldogs (11-2, 4-1) never led by more than six points but pushed back every Lakeview attempt.

George Walton took a 37-32 lead early in the fourth quarter, but Dynesty Putman kept the Lions (11-5, 3-2) close with 5 of her 7 points. Jadeah Mitchell’s basket with 2:14 to play cut the lead to 40-38, but that was as close as the Lions got.

Marshall led Lakeview with 10 points, and Taylor Clark scored 9. Emyrie Combs added 8. Ashley Hill scored 17 to lead George Walton.

Led by Clark with 9 first-half points, Lakeview rallied from an early 5-point deficit to take a 17-13 lead. They got a boost off the bench from Marshall, who scored 6 points.

George Walton ended the half with a 14-6 run to retake the lead. Leila Mathis’ 4-point gave them a 27-24 halftime lead.
