Boys Region Recap: 5 area teams lead or share region leads heading into Tuesday

With a full slate of games on tap for Tuesday, 11 teams are in the top three in their respective regions while others are trying to get back into the top tier.

Four northeast Georgia area teams lead their regions and five are ranked in the top 10 in their respective classifications coming into Tuesday’s action.

All 17 games on the schedule involve key region showdowns.

Buford, ranked eighth in Class 6A, leads Region 8-6A with a perfect 5-0 record and is 11-3 overall. The Wolves have a one-game lead over Mill Creek (12-6, 4-1 Region 8-6A) with Collins Hill (11-6, 3-2 Region 8-6A) in third.

North Forsyth (8-9, 5-2 Region 6-6A) has won four straight in the region and has climbed to third in the standings, just one-half game behind second place North Atlanta (10-7, 5-1 Region 6-6A). No. 7 Lambert (15-2, 6-0 Region 6-6A) sits atop the standings. The Raiders play host to North Atlanta on Tuesday in a battle for second place.

In Region 8-5A, No. 4 Habersham Central (16-2, 6-0 Region 8-5A) holds a 1/2 game lead over No. 5 Winder-Barrow (16-2, 4-1 Region 8-5A). Loganville (8-6, 3-2 Region 8-5A)  is third.

Cherokee Bluff (17-1, 3-0 Region 8-3A) not only leads Region 8-3A, but the Bears sit atop the Class 3A PSR rankings as well. However, Jefferson (11-4, 3-0 Region 8-3A) is tied with Bluff for first coming into Tuesday’s action and has won five straight.

East Hall (13-3, 2-1 Region 8-3A) is ranked third in Class 3A and is third after falling to the Bears last week at home. The Vikings play host to Jefferson looking to get atop the top two  after falling to Bluff last week. The Dragons are hoping to continue momentum before a huge matchup with Cherokee Bluff on Friday at The Arena.

In Region 6-3A, No. 6 Pickens (16-0, 6-0 Region 6-3A) leads No. 19 Lumpkin County (11-6, 5-1 Region 6-3A) by one game. No. 18 GAC (11-5, 4-2 Region 6-3A) is third with North Hall (10-7, 3-3 Region 6-3A) fourth.

Union County in Region 7-2A has remained hot with an 8-game win streak. However, the Class 2A second-ranked Panthers (15-2, 7-1 Region 7-2A) trail No. 5 North Cobb Christian (14-3, 8-0 Region 7-2A) by a game. No. 8 Coahulla Creek (12-4, 6-2 Region 7-2A) is third and No. 18 Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (11-5, 5-3 Region 7-2A) sits fourth.

Rabun County is another of the area teams leading its region. The Wildcats (15-3, 5-0 Region 8-A D1) are ranked third in Class A D1 and hold a one-game lead over No. 20 Banks County (9-7, 4-1 Region 8-A D1). Commerce (10-7, 2-2 Region 8-A D1) is fourth in the standings.
