The Georgia Mountains YMCA announced Monday the  appointment of Greg Gober as the organization's first-ever  Executive Director of Mission Advancement.

In the role, Gober, a long-time member of the Georgia Mountains YMCA, will serve to further its mission to foster connections within Hall County and surrounding areas.

“It was not until I was asked to serve on the board almost a year ago that I understood the profound impact that the YMCA has within our community,” Gober said in a release. “ A statistic that gripped my heart was that almost 50% of students in Hall County are not able to read at grade level by the time they reach the third grade. I am honored to be able to serve with an organization that is affecting so many families within our community.”

Prior to taking the position, Gober served in several leadership roles, including as Market Trainer for the McDonald’s Corporation, and working in Pastoral Ministry for over 30 years. He also holds a master’s degree in Education.

“We’re so excited to have Greg on board,”Lane Walberg, CEO and President of the Georgia Mountains YMCA, said. “He’s passionate about making a difference and has the kind of energy and heart we need to connect even more with our community. I can’t wait to see all the great things we’ll accomplish together.”
