With a full slate of games on tap for Tuesday, nearly a dozen teams in the AccessWDUN Sports coverage area are in the top three in their respective regions, while others are trying to get back into the top tier.
All 17 games involve key region showdowns.
Two area teams -- North Forsyth (17-0, 7-0 Region 6-6A) and Jackson County (12-6, 5-0 Region 8-5A) -- continue to lead their regions. Jefferson (13-3, 3-0 Region 8-3A) and Cherokee Bluff (14-4, 3-0 Region 8-3A) are tied for the region lead.
Four others -- Buford (12-1, 4-1 Region 8-6A), East Forsyth (5-12, 4-2 Region 8-4A) in 8-4A, White County (13-4, 5-1 Region 6-3A) in 6-3A, Banks County (10-5, 4-1 Region 8-A D1) -- all sit in second place in their region standings.
Buford, ranked ninth in Class 6A, is scheduled to play four games again this week, including three in Region 8-6A. The Lady Wolves’ only loss was to Mill Creek (11-3, 5-0 Region 8-6A), but those two teams won’t meet again until Jan. 28 at The Buford Arena.
North Forsyth leads Lambert (11-5, 5-1 Region 6-6A) by 1 1/2 games in Region 6-6A. The Lady Raiders have the two bottom teams in the region in North Atlanta and Alpharetta this week before traveling to Lambert on Jan. 21.
In Region 8-5A, Jackson County will once again have a showdown for first place, this time against Loganville (7-10, 5-0 Region 8-5A) on the road.
Jefferson, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, has a chance to separate itself in Region 8-3A this week. The Lady Dragons will travel to No. 23 East Hall (8-7, 1-2 Region 8-3A) on Tuesday and then play host to No. 3 and streaking Cherokee Bluff (14-4, 3-0 Region 8-3A) on Friday. Third-place Oconee County (12-5, 2-1 Region 8-3A) is still in the mix and will travel to Bluff on Tuesday.
Region 6-3A is the most crowded and has five teams in the top 27 in the PSR rankings. Pickens, ranked No. 1 Class 3A, leads the way (15-1, 6-0 Region 6-3A) with fourth-ranked White County (13-4, 5-1 Region 6-3A) in second place just a game back.
No. 7 Chestatee (11-5, 3-2 Region 6-3A) has climbed into third after an 0-2 start with losses to Pickens and White County. Dawson County (10-7, 3-3 Region 6-3A) is fourth. Lumpkin County (7-10, 2-4 Region 6-3A), North Hall (5-10, 2-4 Region 6-3A), and GAC (9-6, 2-4 Region 6-3A) all are tied for fifth.
There figures to be some movement this week with Pickens traveling to Dawson County while Lumpkin County heads to White County. GAC plays host to winless Johnson.
East Forsyth is tied for second in Region 8-4A behind Class 4A sixth-ranked North Oconee. The Lady Broncos, who have dropped five straight, play host to Walnut Grove (8-7, 3-3 Region 8-4A) need a win in a key game to stay in the top three.
