After a 14-year-old Apalachee High School student was allegedly found in possession of a firearm on school grounds, he was taken into custody at around 2 p.m. Wednesday.
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) reports that they charged the student with two counts of possession of a weapon on school grounds, theft by taking, and minor in possession of a firearm.
Officials said they were able to locate the student and take his weapon without incident.
They also said the student was “cooperative and compliant” when encountered by law enforcement officers and there were no reports of the student threatening anyone with the gun.
The student was transported to the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center.
A Barrow County Schools official confirmed Apalachee High School's classes are canceled for Thursday, while other Barrow County Schools are still in session.
Updates will be released when available according to the BCSO.
