More than 40,000 customers for power service throughout northeast Georgia are in the dark to start Friday morning. Many of the area's EMC utility providers are seeing growing numbers at Helene is downgraded from Hurricane, to Tropical Storm status.
Currently, Jackson EMC is reporting more than 8,500 customers without service from outages in Hall, Gwinnett, Banks, Jackson and Barrow counties .
Georgia Power's outages in Northeast Georgia area are affecting more than 17,000 customers, north of I-85 throughout Rabun, Stephens, Forsyth, Banks, Jackson, Habersham, Gwinnett and Hall counties.
Habersham EMC has nearly 16,000 customers from outages and Sawnee EMC are reporting 300 customers from outages without service.

Here are the most recent outage numbers as of early Thursday morning:
Currently, Jackson EMC is reporting 175 outages. 155 of those are in Hall County, with 18 in Barrow County.
Habersham EMC has 30 customers with two outages. 29 of those affected are in Habersham County, with one in White County.
Sawnee EMC has two outages with six customers affected in the Dawson and Lumpkin County areas.
Georgia Power's 26 outages in the area are affecting over 1,000 customers. 624 of those are in Gwinnett County, while 362 are in Rabun County. The rest are scattered across Hall, Banks, Stephens, and Lumpkin counties.

With Hurricane Helene rapidly approaching, local power suppliers have issued statements about potential closures.
Jackson EMC released a statement regarding the storm.
“Jackson EMC linemen and contact center team members stand ready to respond to our members when needed. We will mobilize restoration crews prepared to respond to any outages as quickly as conditions and safety procedures allow,” Director of Communication Wendy Jones said in a press release.
As of 6 p.m. on Wednesday, they are reporting six outages in Hall County and 132 overall.
They remind the public to beware of fallen power lines, take precautions when using a generator, and prepare for medical needs.
Sawnee EMC said they are closely monitoring Helene’s projected path and are preparing for the impact to the area.
Sawnee EMC is reporting just eight customers affected with five outages as of 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
Habersham EMC is reporting 727 outages in Habersham County and 84 outages in Hall County.
Georgia Power is reporting two outages and 11 customers affected in Hall County.
