Football: Three region contests headline Week 7 radio lineup

The most eye-opening game of Week 6 may have been North Hall's defensive performance in Cleveland. The Trojans held the Warriors to negative yards rushing in the second half to take the Region 6-3A win.

Commerce's rally fell short against Athens Academy in the 29-28 loss, and Union County turned some heads with a 21-0 win over North Murray.

Other than that, Week 6 was pretty quiet. This week, Region 8-3A and Region 8-2A will begin league play.

Meanwhile, on the radio, we'll have Cherokee Bluff at Oconee County; East Forsyth travels to Flowery Branch in a key Region 8-4A game, and Gainesville hits the road again at Johns Creek.

Three games will be on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com.  To follow scores and more this week, follow our Friday Game Night X for scores, stories and highlights.

Cherokee Bluff at Oconee County—Oconee County is the only team that doesn't have a winning region in Region 8-3A, but don't let that fool you. The Warriors have played one of the more challenging schedules in the state and have won the last two, including over Class 2A No. 3 Stephens County. Cherokee Bluff has been pretty good, and the Bears are coming off an off week. It's the region opener for both, and in a region like this one, a win on Friday is key to both teams' region title aspirations. The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).

East Forsyth at Flowery BranchEast Forsyth played North Oconee tighter than most have all season, only trailing 14-7 at halftime and falling 24-7. Sure, that could be called a moral victory, but a close game with a team like North Oconee proves the Broncos have what it takes to battle for a first-round home game in Region 8-4A. The Falcons, however, are still searching for the right combination. This one could be good, but the Falcons must pack every ounce of firepower they have in their arsenal. The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).

Gainesville at Johns Creek — There's one stat that will sum up this game in a nutshell ... The RedElephants are 2nd in 7-5A in scoring (179, 35.8 ppg), while Johns Creek is last in defense (150, 37.5 ppg). That's pretty much all you need to know. Gainesville stumbled against Class 6A No. 1 Carrollton with their lowest output of the season. However, they got back on track last week with a big win over Lanier. Expect nothing less than a rout on the road at Johns Creek. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
