What we thought would be a great Week 5 was somewhat disappointing.
The Buford-Douglas, Gainesville-Carrollton, and North Oconee-Jefferson games did not end the way we expected. Buford blew past Douglas County, Carrollton blew out Gainesville, and North Oconee routed Jefferson.
Lumpkin County also led GAC 13-0 but failed to close out the game in a 19-13 loss. This week, the schedule has 16 games on it and 12 of them are region games.
Meanwhile, on the radio, we'll have East Hall at East Jackson; North Hall travels to White County in a key Region 6-3A game, and Gainesville re-opens City Park with the Region 7-5A opener versus Lanier.
Three games will be on the Jacobs Media airwaves and streaming live on AccessWDUN.com. To follow scores and more this week, follow our Friday Game Night X for scores, stories and highlights.
East Hall at East Jackson—This one could be a shootout or a defensive slugfest. Offensively, the two squads are led by dynamic quarterbacks -- East Hall's Jamarcus Harrison and East Jackson's Drew Richardson can make plays with their feet and arms. But it might come down to that one defensive stop that makes the difference in this one. The game can be heard live on WDUN AM 550 (Click to listen live).
North Hall at White County—This one could be an all-out brawl in Cleveland. It also could involve a whole lot of offense. Let's just say the scoreboard might be working overtime on Friday. The Warriors average 33.5 points per game, while the Trojans average just under 24. Both teams have explosive capabilities, but it might come down to who can best run the ball. The game can be heard live on FM 102.9 WDUN (Click to listen live).
Lanier at Gainesville — The re-opening of City Park will most likely be accompanied by a Gainesville blowout. Big Red is coming off an embarrassing performance against top-ranked Carrollton last week, and will most likely take those frustrations out on Lanier in the Region 7-5A opener. Lanier's defense has been pretty good in their two wins, giving up 17.5 ppg, but in their two losses, they gave up 32 ppg. Expect Gainesville to be extremely ready for this battle. Will Lanier have something up their sleeve for Big Red? Great question. The game can be heard live on FM 94.5 The Lake (Click to listen live).
