Emergency crews rescued a man who was stuck after his pickup truck crashed into a creek just outside of Cornelia Thursday night.

A release from Habersham County Public Information Friday said the incident happened just after 8:30 p.m. on Camp Creek Road around a half a mile north of Veterans Memorial Highway. Officials said the truck left the road across from Tony Cook Trucking Company and went into the water, leaving the driver stuck inside.

Emergency crews from both Habersham County and the city of Cornelia responded, freeing the driver, 80-year-old John Fox, and using a rescue bucket to get him out of the creek. He was taken from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Habersham for treatment of minor injuries.

Camp Creek Road was blocked between Veterans Memorial Highway and Chase Road for just under two hours while crews worked the scene.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that Fox said he swerved off the roadway because another vehicle was in his lane and coming at him head on. Fox was not charged in the wreck.
