Cherokee Bluff next will travel to Oconee County on Thursday for a key Region 8-3A contest.

WESLEYAN 5,
BUFORD 3

Wesleyan stunned Class 6A No. 1-ranked Buford at the Buford Softball Complex on Wednesday.

It was the first loss of the season for Buford (10-1). They had allowed just 13 total runs on the season coming into the non-region showdown.

Buford opened up a 3-0 lead after the fifth inning, but could not hold it. Wesleyan scored four times in the sixth to grab the lead and then held on for the come-from-behind win.

Buford scored once in the third when Janie Goldin scored on a sacrifice bunt from Brooklyn Atha. The Lady Wolves went up 2-0 in the fifth inning when Junior Kadyn Gabrels belted a lead-off solo home run, her 2nd of the season. Later in the inning, Atha knocked in Goldin again for the 3-0 advantage.

Junior Caroline Stanton (4-1) took the tough loss giving up five runs but just two earned after a big error in the sixth. She surrendered six hits and one walk while striking out 16 batters.
