The Forsyth County Fire Department will host a grand opening ceremony for its new Fire Station 9 on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Located at 8420 McBride Ln. in Forsyth County, the new station will replace the previous facility on Browns Bridge Rd.
Station 9 was funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax VI and VII programs and impact fees. The construction cost of the project was approximately $7 million. The general contractor for the station was Kevin Price Construction. The architect for the project was Croft and Associates.
The 12,500 foot, four-bay station aims to accommodate future growth within the area. The facility houses Engine 9, Tanker 9, Dive 9 and Marine 9 with projections to also house a fire boat in 2025. The station’s design was based on the county’s standard station design, taking most inspiration from Fire Station 11, according to a release from Forsyth County officials.
“The residents of the Lake Lanier area have patiently waited with us for this much-needed update in facilities,” Forsyth County Fire Chief Barry Head, said. “The Department is excited to share this moment with the community as we take another step forward in providing the best care for Forsyth County.”
The previous Fire Station 9 was constructed in 1989 by volunteers. The two- bay station had several repairs to remain operational until the new facility could be completed.
The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m.
