The Gwinnett County Police Department has charged a Lawrenceville man behind the death of 40-year old Guadalupe Garcia Rodriguez from early July.
A Gwinnett County Police press release indicates on August 8 that detectives received information indicating that Rodriguez, also from Lawrenceville, had been in a dispute over some land in Mexico with the father of an ex-girlfriend.
This led investigators to follow up with the ex-girlfriend at a home in Lawrenceville. While conducting multiple interviews, investigators were able to identify the suspect as 38-year old Mario Rene Lopez-Jolon of Lawrenceville and learned that the suspect was in Huntsville, Alabama. Detectives contacted the Huntsville Police Department, and Lopez-Jolon was taken into custody a short time later at a hotel there.
Police say Lopez-Jolon is charged with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies and is awaiting extradition to Gwinnett County from Madison County, Alabama.
At around 12:30 a.m. on July 3, Gwinnett Police officers responded to the 200 block of Paden Cove Trail to check on a parked truck and discovered the body of Rodriguez inside the cab of the truck. He was previously reported missing by his wife on July 1 and was last seen leaving in the truck that day.
