Utility crews in the City of Winder will be collecting information from field visits and collecting service line inventory information starting this week.

These investigations are part of the City's ongoing efforts to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule and will continue over the next three months.

The Lead and Copper Rule mandates that all water systems develop an inventory that captures historical data which includes the materials of service lines.

Materials are typically found inside meter boxes located at homes built prior to 1990.

In order to remain compliant the City must complete this inventory and submit the findings to the EPA by October 2024.

The most recent water quality report detected 0.52 parts per billion of lead and 207 parts per billion of copper which is well below the EPA's actionable levels of 15 parts per billion for lead.
