Hall County Solicitor General Stephanie Woodard has turned in her resignation to Governor Brian Kemp according to the Governor's Office as she faces both a criminal trial and a civil lawsuit.
Woodard's resignation comes after a criminal indictment in June alleging she stole over $4,000 from the county over a four-year span and a civil suit from a former employee claiming she retaliated against her after the GBI’s investigation into Woodard.
In July, Kemp appointed a committee to review those indictments and recommend whether or not he should suspend her from office. Friday was set to be the deadline for that committee to report back to Kemp with their recommendation.
Later that month, Woodard tried to quash seven of those charges due to the statute of limitations, saying the charges in question occurred more than four years ago.
On Wednesday she attempted to dismiss all Georgia Whistleblower Act (GWA) complaints against her levied by Michelle Daniel due to Woodard being an elected official.
Woodard was first appointed to the position in December of 2008.
