Three people were taken to a local hospital Wednesday afternoon after the driver of a WeGo rideshare van had a medical emergency leading to a crash in Gainesville.
The Georgia State Patrol said troopers responded at around 12:56 p.m. to the area of Thompson Bridge Road near Springview Road.
The driver of the van John Stockton, 69, was driving south on Thompson Bridge Road when he experienced a medical emergency.
According to GSP, the van entered the center turn lane and traveled into the northbound lane, where it hit a Subaru Outback driven by Kathleen Skelton, 52, of Gainesville.
The van continued traveling south in the northbound lanes and hit a Ford F-150, driven by Abisai Leon, 22, of Gainesville.
Gainesville Public Relations Director Christina Santee confirmed all of the van's passengers are safe.
“I can confirm a WeGo rideshare vehicle was involved in an accident after its driver suffered a medical emergency. Fortunately, we hear everyone is OK and all passengers were wearing their seatbelts, which is now required of all WeGo passengers as of July 1,” Santee said in an email to AccessWDUN.
Stockton and two passengers in the van were taken to a hospital for minor injuries.
